A specific aisle can then be accessed by simply turning a handle or pushing a button. Types of High-Density Mobile Shelving
There are two main types of high-density mobile shelving: mechanical-assist high-density mobile shelving and powered high-density mobile shelving.
Mechanical-Assist High-Density Mobile Shelving
Mechanical-assist high-density mobile shelving, also known as hand crank high-density shelving, is operated using a three-spoked, ergonomically designed handle. Moving multiple rows of shelving, even shelves containing heavy items, requires minimal force on the control handles. This type of high-density mobile shelving comes with safety locks on all of the control handles to ensure users are safe while working in open aisles. Mechanical-assist high-density shelving is especially ideal for areas with lower activity levels.
Powered High-Density Mobile Shelving
Compared to mechanical-assist high-density mobile shelving, powered high-density mobile shelving controls are easier to use, as the powered shelving only requires a push of a button. This type of high-density mobile-shelving also provides a higher level of protection for people accessing stored items and materials, thanks to its safety system that senses when an aisle is occupied. Powered high-density shelving units can also be integrated with automatic features, such as security, lighting, sprinkler systems, and dust control, making them ideal for areas with heavier foot traffic.
