3 Reasons to Use Fork Extensions

Fork Extensions

Fork extensions are the perfect solution for commercial and industrial applications that need to handle large or oddly shaped materials. These products can transform a conventional forklift by providing enhanced load stability and precision, allowing operators to confidently handle difficult loads in nearly any environment. Every fork extension is designed to easily slide over existing forks and lock into place, allowing for enhanced capabilities without sacrificing safety. As leading providers of warehousing solutions, the team at Commander Warehouse Equipment understands how beneficial fork extensions can be for various applications. That is why we have provided a list of 3 reasons to use fork extensions to demonstrate how they can benefit your operation.

3 Benefits of Fork Extensions

Fork extensions offer the following benefits for a variety of applications:

1. Increased Productivity and Safety

Fork extensions can be quickly installed on nearly any forklift to increase their lifting and retrieval capabilities. This eliminates the need to use a larger forklift for general tasks or swap to another unit for one specific lift, maintaining a high level of productivity. Operators can also load and unload multiple standard-sized pallets per lift as long as they do not exceed the rated capacity of the forklift. By utilizing a thick locking bar, every fork extension stays securely in place when handling extended pallets, long materials, or unique products. When selecting fork extensions for your forklift, ensure that the extensions do not exceed more than 50% of the existing fork’s length. For example, if your forks are 36” long, the largest extension you can safely use will be 54”.

2. The Ability to use Double-Deep Pallet Racks

Equipping your forklifts with fork extensions can allow you to install and utilize double-deep pallet racks. As the name implies, these racking systems feature shelves that can store 2 standard pallets back-to-back or one extended pallet. This allows you to store and retrieve more products/materials at the same time, optimizing storage potential and increasing productivity without occupying additional floor space.

3. Cost-Effectiveness

While you could simply purchase larger forks for your forklift, this is a more expensive option that is not as easy to undo. Fork extensions are a more cost-effective solution that allows operators to swap between their standard and extended forks as needed for the lift and operating space. By opting for a set of fork extensions, operations can save money without cutting down on performance or safety.
