What is Warehouse Rack Storage?

What is warehouse rack storage?

Knowing what warehouse rack storage is and the different types available will help you select the best storage solution for your specific workspace needs. At Commander Warehouse, we understand that choosing the right racking system can make a huge difference to your bottom line. That is why we carry a wide range of racking systems to choose from.

Types of Warehouse Racking Systems

Warehouse rack storage systems are specifically designed for storing pallets and bulky items. Some of the different types of warehouse racking systems you can choose from include:

Selective Pallet Racks

As one of the most popular and versatile pallet racking systems, selective pallet racks work to provide enhanced space efficiencies, as well as immediate access to stored items with the use of a forklift.

Double-Deep Pallet Racks

Double-deep pallet racks are constructed by putting one row of selective pallet racking in front of another. This type of warehouse rack storage offers a cost-effective solution for creating high-density storage space and for increasing storage capacity.

Push-Back Pallet Racks

Push-back pallet racks feature a cart system that allows pallets to slide forward when the pallet in front has been removed. This means that pallets can be fed and retrieved from one aisle, which can help reduce picking times.

Drive-In & Drive-Thru Pallet Racks

Since drive-in and drive-thru pallet racks require fewer aisles, they can help significantly increase the amount of storage space available when compared to using selective pallet racking. With this type of warehouse racking storage system, forklifts can drive directly into the racks, which can be at least six pallets deep. Drive-in pallet racking systems use a common entrance and exit, while drive-thru pallet racking systems have separate entrances and exits.

Cantilever Racks

Unlike other types of racking systems that are best for storing palleted products, cantilever racking systems are ideal for storing longer, irregular shaped items, such as pipes, lumber, tubing, and similar items.

Bar Stock Racks

Similar to cantilever racking systems, bar stock racking is designed to handle longer items; however, this type of racking is best suited for light and medium duty applications, while cantilever racking can withstand heavier items.

Reel Racks

Reel racks are specifically designed for storing spools of wire, metal strands, rope, and other similar materials in a wide range of different sizes.

Why Aisle Width Matters More Than Most Warehouse Managers Think

At Commander Warehouse, we’ve seen facilities locked into inefficient layouts long after their equipment mix has changed, and aisle width is almost always part of the problem. The wrong clearances don’t just slow your operation down; they force every other decision around them. Racking configurations, forklift selection, throughput capacity: all of it flows from...
